Just before midnight on Monday a homeowner living at 36 West Ham Circle in Chili heard a loud bang as a fierce thunderstorm rolled through.
Soon after he found his house on fire. He and his wife escaped unharmed. When firefighters arrived they found the garage heavily involved in fire said Clifton Fire Chief, Dave Richards.
Three departments were called to the scene to assist Clifton as the thunder, lightning and rain kept falling. Chief Richards said their quick response and mutual aid from Chili and Scottsville saved the house. The garage and three cars are a total loss.
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring it under control. The Monroe County Fire Bureau was investigating the cause of the fire.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor injury according to Richards.
